So, the other day, I was watching tv and there were FOUR advertisements back-to-back which literally blew my mind away (in a bad way)! Now, I am not a person who usually criticizes things that I do not watch and other people like, I mean if there really is an argument, I would say why I don’t like xyz show but I usually don’t say xyz sucks. I am a very firm believer of ‘to each his own’. (I know this is not a serious topic, but what the heck! π I wanted to write all this :D).
Anyway, coming back to the point. These ads were extremely senseless and the ideas presented were totally baseless and senseless. I can vouch that there wouldn’t be a single soul who would say that any of these ads had a point. I am really, really regretting not writing this post earlier as I have forgotten 3 out of those 4 ads. I totally remember the last one and the most stupid of the lot. It was about this girl everyone around whom brags about being her best friend and kind of competes to prove how they are closer to the said girl as compared to other people. Why? Well, because the said woman uses a certain hair oil, which makes her look stylish and that is why everyone would want to be her best friend. I don’t remember which brand it was, probably parachute (but I am not sure, I said ‘probably’ and therefore, nobody will sue me). And who the hell in their creative team thought that people would buy this idea of theirs? Oh, and, this is just one of those ads. phew!!
Note: If you want to kill yourself at this point because of the sheer stupidity of this ad or most ads these days, please don’t. There are still things to cherish in this world. I’ll post about one of Β them tomorrow maybe? π
Oooh! I remember seeing that ad and thinking “What absolute crap on Earth is this?”…
Terrible!
I know. Who thinks like that? π and you know what, i am so sad that I cannot recall the other three ads. they were equally terrible!
PS: your comment made me happy. π
Haha! Your post makes me happy. π I can connect so quickly. “Oh yes! That ad!!”
Thank you so much. you are sweet. π
Right back at ya!
PS: I tried to find that ad on Youtube. Felt so stupid typing “Best friend oil TVC”
hahahaha! Best friend oil TVC! lol!
Whitening n AXE deo ads are d most frustrating!
I know Heena! whitening i still manage to tolerate, but axe ads are so exasperating. I mean cummon! I have seen no girl doing that. Idiots! π
Okay I know what ad you are talking about, but even I don’t remember the brands’ name. That really proves that the advertisers failed in their task of creating brand recall value.
And I actually don’t mind exaggeration and hyperbole in advertisements. What I really love are ads that are funny π
Nice space you have got here Srishty
Hi Karishma, thank you for the kind words and the visit. π and yes, even I love ads that are funny. π unless it is giving a wrong signal in terms of, lets say, objectifying women. Hence, i don’t like axe ads and the likes. I am totally with you regarding hyperbole as long as its funny, for instance, happy dent’s ad? π
For this particular ad that i am talking about in this post, the only problem I had was that it was utterly stupid on the creator’s part to think that anybody would buy the idea. π
Haha..nice post!!I really think these ad makers should think before they make these ads!!But you need to see Japanese ads..they are really kiddish and have animals dancing n stuff..hilarious!!
Hahhaha! that must be funny. I remember the Japanese ad that Joey (from FRIENDS) did for a lipstick meant for men. It was super funny! π Thanks for taking time out to read and comment prerna π
